Kom­merzien­rat Sig­mund Scherdel founds a wire draw­ing mill for the pro­duc­tion of piano strings in Mark­tred­witz. The spring steel wire is soon processed into spokes, flex­i­ble shafts, ten­sion, com­pres­sion and tor­sion springs.
